The Cátedra Demetrio Ribes (UVEG) is a research centre that promotes and disseminates research into the history of transport and its infrastructures, public works in a broad sense, and territorial planning through the insertion of public works in the territory, through either major networks or singular elements.

It is supported by the Valencian Ministry of the Environment, Water, Infrastructures and the Territory. The research staff from the centre will collaborate on the Cultural Landscapes project in some of their outreach areas that align with it. More information on their activity in many of the areas connected to the project can be found on the Cátedra Demetrio Ribes website.

Prior research

Dr Amadeo Serra and Dr Luis Arciniega, History of Art professors at the University of Valencia and PIs for the project, have worked on and led a constant stream of European Union integrated action and R&D projects. Among the latter, some of the most noteworthy include: ‘Architecture in construction in the Valencian context in the Middle Ages and early modern period’ (HUM2004-5445/ARTE), ‘Memory and meaning: Use and reception of vestiges of the past’ (HAR2009-13209), ‘The reception, image and memory of art from the past’ (HAR2013-48794-P) and ‘Memory, image and conflict in Renaissance art and architecture: The Revolt of the Brotherhoods in Valencia’ (HAR2017-88707-P).

In broad terms, through the MUPART research group, they seek to analyse the politics of the image in visual arts and architecture, taking into account not just the specific production circumstances, but also their evolution and reception over time from the context of the old Kingdom of Valencia at the time of the fueros up to the present day in the Valencian Community.
